ct-dgr-bakery-opens-downers-grove-tl-0430-20150424Owner and Executive Pastry Chef, Maria Gabriela (“Gabi”) Perez, will be offering a wide variety of delicious desserts—cakes, cookies, decorated sugar cookies, pies, tarts, and other delights. The attractively furnished shop also specializes in custom cakes for any occasion—weddings, birthdays, showers, bar mitzvahs, retirement parties, etc. Ms. Perez has studied her craft and attended seminars under several well known pastry chefs, such as Sebastian Cannone, Colette Peters and Edwal Notter to name a few. She has also worked as an executive pastry chef at Orlando, Boston and Chicago area country clubs, theme parks and hotel restaurants. She has also work for a couple celebrity chefs, preparing desserts for as few as one and as many as 4500. She brings an artistic flair to cake decoration, which can help set the mood for parties. She recently had a booth at the April 16 Taste of 630 event. She sampled panna cotta, and a new creation she has called “Sbaglio Limone”. She was preparing lemon pound cake made with EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil, from the Olive Tap), when an oven malfunction forced her to change plans. On the fly, she cut and baked them into biscotti, and served them with sliced strawberries and balsamic vinegar dressing. She gave them the name of “Lemon Mistake”. But the dessert was hardly a mistake, as she came with 350 pieces and ended with only 2 left over!
